Nanotechnology has expanded folds in today`s world. Looking closer at all the useful properties these resources can be at atomic levels and the advantages that are possible at this size, more research has been focused on developing the technology. At the atomic level, it is way easily possible to alter properties to fit the purpose and harass them for better usage. These are Multifunctional Nanoparticles with tunable pore size.

All about Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles

This is a Mesoporous form of silica and is of the following types - MCM-41, KSW-, FSM-, HMM, SBA-15, MSU-, etc. These appear to be white powder in form. They have regular arrangements of pores found after synthesis.

Bio sensors are one major area of application of these Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles. These are operated in such a way that they are attached to a molecule that will get the drug to the target cell. These particles have solved the issue of water insolubility of drugs. They are proved to boost the ability of vitro and vivo dissolution of water insoluble drugs.

These Nanoparticles find wide usage in drug delivery, imaging and catalysis. Along with these there are various other uses, hence, new methods have been developed for their synthesis. A template made of micellar rods reacted tetraethyl ortho silicate with is among the first few methods used for synthesis that result in large quantities of nano size particles with regular pore size. Sol – gel method and spray drying method are also other methods of synthesis used in this case.
